Notes from Reef ton. (From Our Own Correspondent.) REEFTON, June 15.
The Big River Companjrs mine manager reports: "During the week the drive on the leef track at No. 8 lev-el has been driven loft, making the distance from the cross-cut 23ft. The track keeps very wide. There is 2ft of Blate quartz and pug mixed on the hanging •wall, aad about Ift of slate on the footwall, "with hard sandstone and quartz mixed in the middle. The track is a little over 7ft wide, .■with two good walls." June 16. The following are the returns of the Consolidated Goldfield of New Zealand (Ltd.) for the month of May, 1905:— Golden Fleece: 1250 tons of stone were crushed at the 20stamp mill for a return of 5170z sdwt 12gr •■bullion, valued at £2110 0s lid. Eleven tons concentrates wore produced, and 840 tons, coarse sand cyanided, the latter yielding ■bullion to the value of £303 4s lOd. Wealth of ■Nations: 1065 tons of quarts were crushed •t the 20-stamp mill, producing 2990z bullion, ▼alued at £1235 17s 4d. Six and a-half tons Concentrates were produced, and 710 tons coarse sands cyanided, the latter yielding bullion to the value of £476 14s 6d. At the ■Energetic No. 7 level the crosscut has advanced 63ft, and No. 8 level was driven 91ft; 636J tons of the quartz crushed were obtained from ifth» Energetic development. I were mined and transported by aerial line to the 65-slamp mill, where 5310 tons w-ere crushed, producing 16960z 19c!wt of bullion, valued at ;£7052 15s lOd. Ninety five ton 9of 1 concentrates were chlorinated, yielding bullion jto the value of £931 8s lOd ; 3140 tons of tailI ings were cyanided, yielding bullion to tho value of £717 Is lid. June 17. The Alpine Company's mine manager reports:—The intermediate level has been extended south on 4ft 6in of stone. There is no improvement in the quality. A sufficient rise in tlie Buller River has enabled the New Feddersen's dredge to be refloated. She will be shifted about a mile down the stream to the lower end of the claim, where there is deep water ground, on whioh ie is propesed to work. It was tried about a couple of years ago, when returns ranging as high as 60oa per week were obtained. -"*"-
