THE WINTER SHOW.
The interior of tk© Agricultural Hall and annexes presented a busy- scene, on Saturday, when the Workmen were engaged peparing for the winter show, aai institution which the people of the province always combine to make a great success. More applications for space for implements, etc., were received than could be granted, so that that-sectkm should be a feature of the exhibition. This year .very keen interest is being taken by the management of the cheese and butter factories in Otago and Canterbury in the cheese and butter class for factories, and, as the prizes total £400, good competition was naturally expected. In all 17 entries were received from factories from North Canterbury to Southland in the cheese class, and seve'i entries in the butter class. It will be of interest to factory managers to note that the graders in several cases, in computing the points scored during the season, have had to go into two places of decimals to arrive at a conclusion, so close has been the competition. The country bays are, as usual, creating great interest, and the competition is expected to bo exceedingly keen. In bread, scones, and cakes classes the entries have reached a phenomenal total. In the fat stock classes breeders are coming forward from Canterbury. The sheep entries are about the same, but the competiiion will be greater from the fact that more exhibitors ara coming forward. The wool entries are small, as the show is at a season of the year when graziers have no wool on hand, but next season the society proposes to establish a county competition in wools, so that thi3 department should be much larger in future. The. entries in hams and bacon are very good, and the grain and seed classes are well represented.
