TIMARU v. TEMUKA. A team of 10 players from Temuka, journeyed to Timaru on a recent date, and had a match with 10 members of the Timaru Chess Club. Play commenced at 7.30 p.m. and concluded at i.0.30 p.m., with the following results: —

17 4 Although the Timaru players won by the somewhat decisive majority of 13 points, yet the representatives of the Temuka. Chess Club made a. fairly creditable stand in view of the fact that most of them were making their first appearance in any match. The Timaru players, at the conclusion of the contest, hospitably entertained the visitors at supper.
