INTERCOLONIAL. MELBOURNE, June 6.
The report of the Collector of Customs for Tasmania furnished to the Federal Treasurer shows that Tasmanian imports from abroad have fallen off considerably under the Federal tariff, but the decrease is made up by imports from Victoria. In addition to this loss of revenue, the competition of large factories on the mainland is crowding small factories in Tasmania out of existence.
The Admiralty has renewed its request to the Commonwealth to provide a coaling station afc Goode Island in place of that at Thursday Island. It is understood that one of the main reasons for *the change is that the coaling station at Thursday Island is difficult of access, while that at Goode Island would be more easy.
During the Hutton regime objection was taken to the proposal on the ground of the expense of fortifying Goode Island.

The Underwriters' Association has received a cable that the barque Trichera, timber-laden, bound from Westralia to East London, was wrecked near Durban.
A meeting of the New South Wales Bar passed a resolution deprecating any restriction of the powers of the judges of the High Court with regard to holding sittings in any of the States at such times as they consider necessary.
BRISBANE, June 6.
Seven deaths have occurred from a mysterious disease at Maryborough. The disease is supposed to be- plague pneumonia. The Government has despatched an expert to investigate the cases.
