LUMSDEN.
June 12. — The cold has been intense during the past fortnight, there having been the severest frost that we have expenenced for many years. Stock running a»i large and unfed are having a bad time, as the ground is almost completely covered with snow. A change is now taking place, however, and it is to be hoped that a fine spell may ensue. Oddfellowship. — The local lodge is gradually increasing in numbers. Three new members were initiated last Wednesday, 7th, which was ordinary lodge night, and more candidates were nominated for initiation. The anniversary grand ba.ll takes place on Friday next, 16th inst. The management has made a departure in the arrangement for admission. This year all the men fo k are to be admitted by ticket only, and the ladies by individual invitation, acknowledgments of which are coming freely to band. Mr T. Campbell is to do the catering, and Mr and Mrs Afgvo, of Gore, are providing* the music. With the elements favourab"e a record turnout is anticipated.
Accident. — While a large number of juveniles and adults were indulging in sliding and skating on the ioe at the Lumsden bathing pond on Thursday, Bth inst.. Miss Rogers, of our town, slipped, and falling heavily fractured her arm. She was conveyed to her home, and promptly attended to by Dr Todd. who set the limb, and by latest accounts the pati&nt is doing as well as pan be expected.
