May 30. — We have been favoured with very good winter weather so far. A few nights of hard frost have helped to keep things diy, and the roads are in good condition. Farmers are busy carting away the grain to the siding at Otamita 'he bridge being at 'ast passable, although the workmen are still kept "busy protecting the approaches, which look very treacherous things to deal with. We heard a lot about an official opening, but so far it has not come off.
School Committee. — The election of a school committee for this district duly took place, and the following gentlemen were elected — viz., Messrs A. M'Lachlan (chairman), J. Robertson, J. Houston. T. Clelland, J. M. Meekin, D. M'Bain, and Gilfillan. A concert and dance is to be held in aid of the school funds on June 16. At present the school and dwelling houses are both in the hands of the carpenters and painters for necessary le^pairs.
'Property Sale. — Mi W. M'Allan, of this district, bought the farm belonging to the late Mr J. D. Hoops, for which he paid £8 an acre, and as there are no buildings on the ground, it shows that land values are increasing in this district. Wedding. — We had a wedding her© lately — that of Mr John Key to Miss Favel, both young people belonging to this district. Amusements. — Several variety companies have held entertainments in the hall, which were fairly patronised, but I suppose ' the ■winter show in Dunedin will be the next thing that the farmers will be going to, in order to see the latest ideas in agricultural machinery, seeds, etc.
