ALEXANDRA.
June 10.— Owing to the sprinkling- of enow that fell last Saturday and Sunday, ' the frosts have during the week been bitterly keen, the thermometer registering from 12deg to 20deg of frost every morning. Not•withstonding the frost and the snow, the dust is lying thick on th* roads, and with every passing cart is lif ted in clouds. A<i an indication of the dryness of the past few months, I may remark that rain mi slight showers fell on only six days from February 1 to date, and slight snow on two days. Henoe, the watei ■supply has run, short, and, notwithstanding that ;£7JQO was^spent on a water supply for the town, the people have to revert to carting the water from, the river. As two shillings a barrel is charged for carting water, the expense fox •water for domestic purposes bears heavily on fathers -with large families. It must be admitted! that the Borough Council has done its best to meet the public demand since the ■water was cut off from the borough 1-ese.rvoirs. The council at once took the necessary step 3 to connect the Ch&tto Creek water race with the town, mains, but even this supply, owing to a break in the race, has failed us, and now that the break is repaired the heavy frosi prevents the water from, flowing. Hockey Clubs. — Both the fair and the sterner sex have their hockey clubs now in the town. The La-dies' Club has a membership of 28, •while that of the sterner sex numbers 35. The club's first game took place on Thursday afternoon, and was entered into most heartily by the members.
