AUCKLAND, May 26.— Arrived: Nairnshire, from West of England ports. WELLINGTON, May 27.— Sailed: Paparoa and Gothic, for London. BLUFF, May 23.— Sailed: 4.50 p.m., Banffchire, for Durban, via Hobart. POKT ADELAIDE, May 29.— Arrived: Ayrshire, from Liverpool. LONDON, May 20.— The Rimutaka left Plymouth to-day for Wellington and Lyttelton. LONDON. May 23.— Arrived: Indradevi, from New Zealand. The following vessels arrived at this port . during the seven days ended May 28: — Invercargill, s.s., 123 tons; Warrimoo, s.s., 2076; Tarawera, s.e., 1269; Corinna, s.s., 812; Invercargill, s.s., 123; Taieri, b.b., 1071; Bankburn, barque, 1352; Wimmera, fe.s., 1872; Poherua, s.e., 749; Victoria, s.s., 1870; Rose Casey, s.b., 81; — total tonnage, 11,298 tons. The departures were : Hose Casey, s.b., 81 tons; Invercargil], s.b., 123; Ruapehu, e.s., 4948; Moana, e.s., 2414; Manapouri, s.s., 1020; Koonya, s.s., 663; Warrimoo, s.s., 2076; Tarawera, s.s., 1269; Invercargill, s.s., 123 ; Wimmera, e.s., 1872;— total tonnage, 14,589 tone. The New Zealand Shipping Company's steamship Ruapehu left the George street pier, Port Chalmers, at 6 a..m. on the 23rd for London via northern ports. The agents for the New Zealand and African Steamship Company desire it made cl«ar that, while the Ba-nffshire, on completing her loadin-g for South Africa and West of England ports, will have on board some 60,000 crates, containing about twomillions of rabbits, only some 12,000 crates. or a. fifth of the total numl>er, are being shipped from New Zealand. Lord and Lady Plunket will spend Wednesday in Dunedin, and on Thursday will proceed to Milton, where they will spend a low daya in visiting LawTence, B&lclutha, Kaitangata and the surrounding district. They will leave for the north on Monday, June 5, and will go straight through to Wellington. The N.Z.S. Company's Ruapehu, which left Port Chalmers on the 23rd for London, via northern ports, took the following cargo from this port: — 528 bales wool, 184 do .sfaoepskins, 32 do rabbitskine, 7 do baeila, 3 do horsehair, 8 sacks grain, 240 packages machinery, 183 casks tallow, 21 do pelts, 5212 carcases frozen mutton, 200 crates rabbits. 113 bales flax, and 1 case. Mr A. Morrison, the well-known consulting engineer, has received the appointment of Lloyd's surveyor of chipping in this port, in succession to Captain W. Thomson, who ha-s, after many years' meritorious services in that position, resigned. Mr Morrison has acted as assistant to Captain Thomson during the last five years. The veteran captain takes with him in his retirement the good wishes of everyone connected with the shipping interest to whom his valuable services were known. The Marine Department has* placed the following provisions, clothing 1 , etc.. on various parts of the Auckland Islands for the use of castaways: — Erebus Cove, Port Ross depot — 13201b biscuit, 961b preserved meat, 12 pairs blankets, 12 suits clothes, 6 flannel shirts. 6 woollen drawers. 18 pairs socks, 12 pairs boots. Ro-'e Island (boathomo) — 60lb ■biscuit. Endcioy Inland (boathouse) — 60lb biscuit. Norman Inlet depot — 9601b biscuit, 961b preserved meat, 6 pairs blankets, 6 suits clothes. 9 pairs boots. Adams Island (boathouse) — 401b biscuit Camp Cove. Carnley Harbour depot — 16001b biscuit, 961b preserved meat, 12 pairs blankets, 12 suite clothes, 12 flannel shirts, 6 woollen drawers,

18 pairs socks, 12 pairs boots. Total—* 40601b biscuit, 288Jb preserved meat, 30 pairs blankets, 30 suits clothes, 18 flannel shirts, 12 woollen drawei'3, 36 pairs socks, 32 pairs boots. Supplies of tea, sugar, salt, and dripping are also placed in each of the depots, together with a Bible and some miscellaneous articles. The Bluff dredger Murihiku was floated into the graving dock on Saturday afternoon for the purpose of being 1 fitted for active service. The Union Company's new cargo steamer Kaituna, 1246 tons, due here in about * week or so, was purchased from W. France, Fenwick, and Co., London, for £24,000. She was built in 1904- by Osbourne, Graham; and Co., Sunderland, and has a dead weight capacity of 3125 tons. The barque Bankburn, from Liverpool, via Wellington, arrived off the Heads at 8 a.m. on Saturday, and was tendered by the tug Plucky, which towed her into port. She left Liverpool on February 13, andi Wellington on the 20tfi inst. The Bankburn brings some 1142 tons of cargo for Dunedin, which will be discharged at the Rattray street wharf. H.M.S. Challenger was thrown open to inspection on Sunday, and a large number of persons availed themselves of the opportunity; to visit this fine vessel. In the forenoon * Divine service was celebrated on board by the chaplain, the Rev. Warringtop Stock, while a large number of the ship's company went on shore and attended the Roman "Catholic, Presbyterian, and other places of worship at Port Chalmers. The New Zealand and African Company advise that the Essex, which is to leave Liverpool on the 11th June for New Zealand, via Australia, will be followed by the Drayton Grange, which is to sail on the 11th July. The next boat will be the Tyser liner Mimiro. sailing on the 11th August. We are informed that importers may rely upon the vessels of the New Zealand and African fleet sailing from Liverpool regularly on the 11th of each month. There were five steam vessels in the lower harbour on Monday, including H.M.S. Challenger, the gross tonnage of which amounted to 17,408 tons.
