Notes from Alexandra. (From Our Own CorrespondehtJ ALEXANDRA May 16.
Mining matters generally are very quiet. The gorge dredges attempted a start duringf last week, but the river rose 2jft, and several? on this account had to stop. The river ia falling again, but from all accounts a lot of drift is travelling. The Bendigo dredge is all ready to start; but is waiting for coal. The Sailor's Bend dredge may start anyi day. The Jlanuherikia and Fust Chance dredges are working steadily. The Golden Beach dredge has stopped temporarily on account of not having sTjfficient water in the paddock. The Alexandra Lead dredge will stop at the end of the week for an extensive overhaul and to put on the new elevator, and will not start; again for a couple of months. The weather is very unsettled, with every; indication of rain.
