LEAGUE OF THE EMPIRE.
4 St. Margaret Road, Oxford, England.
Dear Dot, — May I make use of your widelyread pages to draw the attention of some of the young letter-writers in New Zealand to the correspondence comrades' branch of the League of the Empire? I cannot help hoping that some of your L.F. may care to have a friend to write to m England, for many boy and girl members of the League of the Empire here are anxious for comrades in New Zealand. It was suggested to me by Mr J. A. Thomson-, the New Zealand Rhodes scholar, who is, I fancy, well known to many L.F. and their parents, that if you would give prominence to this desire, some of the L.F. would be ready to gratify it. If any of them will write to me, filling in a form like the one which I append to this letter, and which you will perhaps be kind enough to reproduce, I shall at once send them the address of a comrade. Girls, of course, write to girls, and hoys to boys.
We hope that by this means many pleasant friendships may grow up between -L.F. at Home and their contemporaries in New Zealand, and that as the correspondents grow up the friendships so formed may become another strong tie to bind together the people of our Empire.
I shall very greatly appreciate your kindness a-nd courtesy if you will give hospitality in your page of the Otago "Witness to this letter. — I am, dear Dot, truly yours,
L. K. HALDANE,
Hon. Sec. Correspondence Branch League of
the Empire.

Jl am only too pleased to insert Mrs Halbane's letter, which. I foel certain, will bear
having that pleasure yet. This is a Very ' fruit among the senior D.L.F. It is very pleaquiet place up here — nothing stirring at all. sant to learn that Mr Thomson, Otago's Most of the young folk are going out this .Rhodes- scholar at Oxford, has time to spare winter, and it will be quieter still." to think of our page and its writers. The favour with which letters w"hich have reached us from L.F. in the Homeland have invariably been received by D.L.F. leads me to hope foi a ready response from several of our bs< writers to Mrs Haldane's invitation. I should like L.F. who decide to correspond to let m< know that they have done so in the fiist lettei they afterwards write to the pige.— DOT]
