THE POULTRY MARKET.

Messrs A. Moritzson and Co. report: — We have had cables from South Africa ordering 1000 cases of chickens, equal to 15,000 birds, also 1000 cases of fowls, equal* to 15.000, also an order foi- 500 turkeys and for 100 cases of geese. We are very sorry to say that we have not been able to take up this order, as we have already plenty of orders in hand, and tbe birds are coming forward very slowly. Since we reported to you last the prices all round have been raised by our South African friends, end this should surely be an inducement to the countiy people to forward the poultry to the poultry department on our account while the demand is on. We can quota at the present time tiho following revised prices for export. Turkeys, which, should not be over 10 months, and .gobblers not weighing less than 131b, and hens 9lb, 8d per lb for gobblers and 6d for hens. If young, the heavier the bird the better the pno& than can be obtained. Goslings, not over six months, 81b and over, and geese, not less than 101b, 5s per pair ; below these weights 4s per pair. Duck? and ducklings, from 41 b and upwards, 3s 9d per pair; from 31b to 41b, 3s per pair- Chickens or cockeiels, froni 3J!b to 4lb, 3s to 3s 3d; over 41b, 3s 6d. Fowls, IrQm. 3iUj to 411^ 3s 9<J

to 3s; from 2^lb to 3£lb, 2s 3d to 2s Gd. Only pc-ultry raised for export — that is, white fleshed — is required for our customers oversea. The pi ices indicated for poultry for export are for on trucks at the country railway stations, and subject to commission The poultry should not arrive later than a Friday morning, as the department will not kill on Saturdays Local prices arp fairly firm, but the demand is not very large. Turkeys: 7d per lb for hens; 9d for gobblers; geese, 5s to 5s 6d; ducks, from 3s 6d to 4-s ; chickens or cockerels, 3Jlb to 4Jlb, 3s 3d; 4Jlb, 3s 6d , fowls, from 3§lb to 41b, 3s; from 2|lb to 3Jlb, 2s 3d; chickens, 2-flb to 3|lb, 2s 6d (all according to weight). The local prices arc, of course, subject to railage, and therefore we think no better than export prices.
