SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS.

The monthly meeting of the School Commissioners of Otago was -held on Tuesday; present— Messrs D. Barrbn (chairman), Dallas, Borrie, Mac Gibbon, and the Hon. A. Baldey.

The commissioners considered the draft of a new form of lease, and it was approved after some discussion. Tho new form provides for further subjects for vaLuation, such as grass, orchards, plantations, and ditching.

P. B. Macdonald wrote forwarding plaai ox subdivision of section 30, block XVI, town of Gore. — Held over until some slight alterations were jnade. ' G-. Pinkney, lessee of Run 327b, Waikaia. wrote amending his application for approvel of fence. — Deviation of fence to be agreed to.

The Ranger reported on A. L. Gerrard's application for a leduction of reut on section 15, block VI, "Winton ilundred. — Declined.

R. S. Black wrote in support of his application for consent to crop about 200 acres on run at Cattle Flat, and for sanction to erect a fence from the corner of section 9, block 11, Wendon. to Mataura River, also for definition of his responsibility regarding iirotective work at Cattle Flat. — The commissioners decided to agree fo the terms asked for by Mr Black — namely, that, provided he bs allowed to take one white crop from 200 acres of Cattle Flat' and the following year lav the land down in grass and turnips, he to erect and maintain the protection work at upper end of flat.

The following transfers were approved on the usual conditions: — From Agnes Walker, lessee of section 8, block XX, Invercargill, to issue lease to Annie F. Hall; W. F. Inder, for consent to transfer section 30, block IV, Wendou, from Hurley Bros, to H. B. Morris ; also for consent to transfers, Gore Engineering Company to W. H. Paterson, section 9, block XXIII, Gore, sublease of same from W. ti. Paterson to Thos. Stevenson; transfer Helen Walker to Mary Ann, Goudy, section 18, block XVIII, Gore; from Messrs Hislop and Creagh, for consent to transfer of lease of 2 of 45. blodk I, Moeraki, to J. R. Thompson.

The Education Department wrote advising that his Excellency the Governor had consented to the leasing of reserves in accordance with the commissioners' letter of 11th March last. — Received.

Mr T. MacG-ibbon reported that he and the ranger passed the ditching done on Mr Gait's leasehold, and the same had been cairie^l out in a satisfactory manner. — Received.

R. Coupla-nd applied for a continuation of his renewal of his lease of section 25, block VII, liivercarjjill Hundred.- — Granted for one year.

With regard to the provision in the conditions of lease giving time to outgoing tenants to remove crops, it was decided in connection with conditions of lease of sections shortly to be offered at auction that „tbe tenants be allowed to July 31 to have crops eaten off or removed.

The Under-secretary of the Department of Justice wrote to the effect that, unless notifying its objection, the Government proposed to include in the schedule to the Statutes Repeal Bill now being prepared for next session the following enactments: — Local, 1877, No. 83, " Hokonui Education Reserves Act. 1877"; local, 1878, No. 20, "Otago School Commissioners Empowering Act, 1878" ; local, 1890, No. 3, " Otago School Commissioners Empowering Act, 1890" : local, 1892, No. 17,

D. E. Lefevre. lessee of section 15, block 111, Harapden, wrote asking the commissioners to locate the boundaries ; also to lease section 8, block X. — Declined.

G. Pinkney, lessee of Run 327b, wrote referring to a statement that the run could be worked without the adjoining sections, and explaining that such was not the case. Received.

Margaret M'Kenzie applied for permission to lease section 65, block I, Waikrtia district, at 9d per acre. — Referred to th» ranger for report.
