Seven games in this round are not completed. April 24. ! The weather to-day was a repetition of Thursday's, and from 11.30 to 2.30 play in the bowling tournament Had to be suspended. M'Laren and Carswell met in the Doubles, and a splendid game was the result, Carswell eventually winning. At the last head M'Laren required 3 to win. In trying to trail the kitty a foot he got two touches, one of which was removed by Carswell, and Taieri won by 2 points. The driving on both sides was perfect, the jack going to the ditch several times. Callender and Scott, the Caledonian colts, performed most creditably. They completely ran away from T. Lock and Wilson, and then repeated the performance against F. Smith and H. W. Reid. Carswell and Tait met Ham and M'llwrick, but the Inyercargill pair had no difficulty in scoring a win. Dall and Keast had a close go with Alexander and j M'Fadyen — the Kaitangata lead, a young player, showing excellent form. Although losing, the Kaitangata pair made a splendid * fight, the result being in doubt up to the last end. Mackie and Christie are playing against J. !E. Tayler and Matthews, and have the game fairly well in ljand, being 6 up with three ends to go. The other matches wer© easy wins. Those left in still besides this \ pair are Ham and M'llwrick, M'lntyre and Gibson, Erskine and Erskine, Dall and Keast, i Callender and Scott. | In the Champion Rinks R. Taylor met T. s Lock, and a good match was witnessed up to the twelfth end, when Taylor was 4 down, j Then the rain came down, and nothing like play was possible. Lock won. The best i rink play of the tournament was provided j to-day dn a match between teams skipped by Payne (Kaitima) and Ham (North End), to , decide the winner of A Section in the Cham- | pion Rink contest. All the players were in | good form, but the skips particularly made ' some brilliant shots. At the eighth head the score was 7 all — Haiu, by fine drawing, having saved a good many shots for his side. At the tenth head the scores were again even. At the eleventh, owing to fine play by F. Sniith and Payne, Kaituna got 3, and a single at the twelfth made them 4 up. At the thirteenth end North End lay 3 when the skips went to play. Payne got first with a beautiful shot, just hiding and touching the jack, North End lying three seconds, the nea\ - est bowl resting Payne's. Ham finished the end with the finest shot of the tournament, coming with a difficult shot on to has own bowl, displacing Payne's without moving the jack, and scoring 4; tally 13 all. At the
fourteenth head a fine trail by F. Sniith gave Kaituna two shots, one of which Ham displaced with his last bowl ; Kaituna 1 up. The play at ,the fifteenth head was very fine. North End lay shot behind the jack, Kaituna with a second at either side. Payne drove through a narrow part and displaced the North End bowl, lying 2, but Harm rose to the occasion and rested the nearest snot; level pegging, and the last end to go. Playing this end the Invercargill lead got close to the jack, but Reid robbed him of the shot. This state of affairs remained till M'llwrdck, with his last shot — a beauty. — drew the jack and lay beside it. Ham ineffectually tried to block and Payne as ineffectually tried to drive, and a 'great outburst of cheering greeted the hard-won victory of the North End rink.
Ham is 3 up aga/inst Dall in the semi-final of the ordinary tournament. The same rinks have to be pitted against each other in the semi-final of the Champion Rink tourney, the winner playing off agaiinst T. Lock's Gore team. T. Sneddon's rink had a hollow victory over Carswell's Taieri team, and remains in the final of the ordinary rink match. Tuesday's play ought to prove most interesting, as the weather promises to clear up and the green is in splendid order, considering the amount of rain that has fallen.
The visitors were entertained at a very successful smoke concert this evening.
