Messrs Dalgety and Co. (Limited) report as fol.ows — This week we held our usual fortnightly sale of hides at our stoics, Cumberland and Vogel streets, on Tuesday m place of Thursday. There was a good attendance of buyers, and bidding for most of the hides on offer was fairly good. Prices realised were ort a par with those rxilsng a fortnight ago, with the exception of medium ox hides, which were, if anything, lower. We nad no specially prime stout hides m offei, and om top price for ox was sgd and for cow 4Jd. The following are a few of our sales: — Ox: One 661b, s?d ; cne 60lb, sd ; one Glib, 4gd : two 471b, 4|d ; cne 381b, 4^d ; four 441b, 4Jd : four 571b, 4gd. Cow : Fourteen 40lb, 4£d ; eight 471b, 4|d ; nine 41)b, 4Jd; one 461b. 4£d; one 321b, 4gd ; two 631b, 4^d; eight 541b, 4gd ; five 381b, 4gd per lb. Calfskins. Is 6d to 3s Gd each.
The New Zealand Loan- and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) report holding their usual fortnightly sale at their stores, Lower Rattray street, on Tuesday, when they; offered a fair-sized catalogue to the usual representative gathering of buyers. Prices were much on a par with those ruling at last sale, except in the case of stout ox, which, appeared appreciably cheaper. As of late, the keenest demand was for medium weights — say, up to 481b. Prices may be quoted as under: — Heavy ox, 5d to sld ; medium, 4Jd to 4gd ; light," 4d to 4|d ; heavy cow, to 4|d ; medium, 4Jd to 4fd ; light, 3Jd to 4|a. Donald Reid and Co. (Limited) report E3 follows: — All the buyers attended on Tuesday, 18th inst.. when we held our usual fortnightly sale at our stoics, Cumberland, Jetty, and Vogel streets. We submitted a fairly large cata'ogue, made up mostly of country butchers' hides, none of which were over ordinary weights. There wa.s again a brisk demand and' very keen competition for all sorts, but, as of late, the hides that brought relatively the highest prices were light weights, and of these we sold a number at very satisfactory prices. Of extra heavy weights we had none, and we have no record prices to record; but the medium weights offered brought good prices. We quote • Good stout ox, 5d to 51d ; medium, 4id to 4£d , light. 4id to 4£d ; best cow, 4{jd to 41d; medium, 4|d to 4£d; light, 4d to 4£d per lb; yearlings, 2s 9d to 3s 7d ; calfskins, Is to 2s 7d each. In cow hides cv top price was 41d, which we obtained for 13 weighing 461b, one weighing 441b, one weighing 42'b, and two weighing 391b, while several others brought 4|d. Our top price in money valus for ox hides £1 149 lOd, and for cows £1 Ss Cd. Our catalcgxie was principally made up of light-weights, which again imled in sellero' favour, fetching relatively, higher price's than other classes, whilst mediumweight ox and cow and also extra heavies sold on a par with prices obtained at the lasti sale. Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co. report having held their fortnightly sale on Ttiesc(f> j instead of on next Thursday, the usual date, when they offered 390 ox, 135 cow, and! 7 calfskins— a total of 532 hides — to a full muster of buyers. Throughout the sale bidding was brisk and competition keen, tho result being that, with the exception of two lines, the whole catalogue was sold at highly satisfactory prices. The bulk of the ox hidea were from medium to good qviality, with a few heavy, stout freezing and abbatoir lots, but there was nothing equal to the best lines oflered at our last sale, and 6^d per lb was top price realised by us, although more woulcl have been obtained had hides of sufficient substance been forward. There were also some nice cow hides offered, and up to 4Jct per lb was given. With few exceptions, the cenditiou of the offerings was good, especially the lines from freezing works, and this helped the sale considerably. Messrs Waters, Ritchie, and Co. report having held their usual fortnightly sale of hides on Tuesday. There was the usual attendance of buyers, and competition was keen throughout the sale. Prices, as compared with the last sale, ruled much about the same, with ths exception of mediumweights, which were quite Jd per lb lower. Our catalogue was made up principally of country consignments, and the following were out top prices: — Two ox, 5Jd; two do, s|d ; three do, s|d; three do, 5Jd; two do, s§d; tyro do, 53.. Wo quote: Extra prime stout os, 52d to 6Jd; heavy, H& to shd; medium, 4Jd to 4gd; light, 4Jd to 4gd ; extra heavy cow, 4|d to sd; medium, 4gd to 4|d; light, 44d to 4!d; yearlings, 3|d to 4^d per lb; calfskins. The Otago Farmers' Co-operative Association of New Zealand (Limited) report: — We held our usual sale of hides in our wool stores, Crawford .and Vogel streets, on Tuesday, when we offered a fair catalogue to the usual attendance of buyers. Our catalogue was composed mainly of light-weights, which were all well competed for, and cleared at satisfactory, prices. We quote: Extra prime heavy ox, to 6|d ; heavy, sid .to 6d; medium, 4£d to 4£ d; extra heavy cow, 4|d to sd ; heavy; 4|d to 4|d ; medium, 4fd to 5d per lb ; yearlings, 4s 6d'to 6s; calfskins,"~2s to 4s each.
