WAITAHUNA
April 8*. — A tennis match, the last of the season, was played last Wednesday week between Lawrence and Waitahuna, resulting in an easy win for the iormer. This match concludes the tennis play for the season, as the light is getting bad. The evenings are closing in early now. Deaths. — Within a week three residents of this district have passed to their long account. Mr David Watson, a resident of 28 years, carrying on a well-known saddlery business, died last Saturday, after a long and trying illness. His death is greatly regretted by a large circle of friends, who also sympathise deeply with his sorrowing family. The youngest son of Mr L. Scott, also passed away in the Lawrence Hospital about the same time, after a, short illness. Mr Scott had only two sons, the elder one dying many years ago, and the younger, as stated, last week, so that his death is a very heavy blow to his father. Mr Hugh Auld died on Thursday, April 6, after a short illness. He was also a resident of many years' standing — upwards of 30 years. He leaves a widow and large family to mourn their loss.
Personal. — The many friends of Mr R. M'Ara will be pleased to notice that he has recently been appointed justice of the peace.
