ANNUAL SALE OF SURPLUS SHEEP AT MOUNT ROYAL STATION.

Messrs Dalgety and Co. (Limited) report having held on account of the trustees in the estate of the late Mr John Douglas, Mount Royal Station, the annual sale of surplus station sheep on Friday, March 10. The day turned out beautifully fine, and, as the arrangements for the sale were most complete, very little time was lost in getting through it. This annual fixture invariably draws a large attendance, and that- of yesterday proved to be no exception to the- rule, for there was a, laxg-e gathering- present, including strong contingents " from Ashburton, South Canterbury, and Oamaru. The four-tooth ewes were a particularly fine lot of off- tussock sheep, exceptionally •well grown, in splendid condition, and abowing a lot of breeding. The fat wethers (purchased by Mr E. F. Lawrence, of George " Btxeet) -were nicely finished, wliil« the lines oi five and six-tooth halfbred and crossbred and ,two-toofch crossbred wethers would be difficult to mateh — an even lot of big, strong sheep in thtf'very pink of condition. Competition for every class was very keen, and the sale throughout was a most satisfactory one, as may be seen from, the prices given below. The demand for horses was not very brisk, but, not•withstanding, the whole were cleared at fairly satisfactory prices: 420 4-tooth three-quarter-bred ewes, 26s 6d; 980 four-tooth halfbred and three-quarter bred wethers, l&s sd ; 803 fat wethers, 21s 7d; 505 two-tooth three-quarter-■fered wethers. 20s 2d; 1300 full-mouth halfbred ewes, 20s lOd ; 383 halfbred ewes, 18s ; 107 broken-mouthed halfbred ewes, " 15s sd ; 1513 halfbred wether lambs (tussock fed), 13s 8d; light draught three-year-old colts and fillies (unbroken), £32 to £39 ; unbroken light springcart colt, £20 10s.
