D.L.F. LITERARY AND DEBATING CLUB.

Motto : " Union is strength." Dear Dot, — The usual weekly meeting of the D.L.F. Litsrary ? and Debating Club was held in the board room of the Witness office on Tuesday evening, March 7. There were present of the committee the president (Harry), in the chair; A. Ned, Black Watch, T. D. A., Lenore, Tangles, C. C. M., Troilus, Hubert, and 32 members. The subject for debate was, "Which Wields the Greater Influence Over the Minds of the People : the Religious Press or the Pulpit?" Emerald and A. Ned gave the preference to the religious press and Harry, Black Watch, and Troilus to the pulpit. The arguments were very close, and the judge? (Tangles, Texas Jack, and T. D. A.) gave their decision in favour of the pulpit exercising more influence over the minds of the people than the religious press. We had for impromptu speeches, "Should Young People Show their Love-letters to their Parents?" The speakers were Emerald, Harrj', Hubert, A. Ned, Go Hon, C. C. M., and T. D. A. Some very good points were brought forward, and some, indeed, caused not a little merriment. — Yours truly, THE DUKE'S AMUSER, Secretary.
