Fourth Day — Saturday March 11.

The final day of the V. LI.C. autumn meeting was the "best from every point of view. The weather was again perfect. There was a, big attendance, including the State Governor. Whereas formerly the Steeplechase was reserved as an attraction for the last day, the club now includes the Champion Stakes in. addition, making up a splendid programme. The course was in every way as perfect aa the weather. By the time the Steeplechase was run the crowd had swelled to large proportions. The ladies' costumes were largely such as might have been worn afc the spring meeting. Young Creswick went out a hot favourite for the Steeplechase, with Snowstorm next in demand. Forty Winks, Freedom, Young Creswick, and Snowstorm passed the stand in that order. At the far turn Freedom took command and led past the abattoirs from Forty Winks, Young Creswick, Aberfoyle, Poster, Snowstorm, and Signet last. They took the first jump into the lane in the same order. Aberfoyle fell, and Young Creswick and JEronaut toppled over the stone wall. Freedom, Snowstorm, and Forty Winks led out of the straight. Forty Winks then went to th» front, and led Snowstorm and Freedom along to the abattoirs, where Freedom again went to the front, with Poster next-. Freedom fell at the last fence. Poster led into the straight, and won by six lengths; Forty Winks, eight lengths away, third. Time, 6min 335 sec.
