V.R.C. AUTUMN MEETING. j Second Day — Tuesday, March 7. j Most delightful weather favoured the second day of the V.R.C. autumn meeting. A light shower fell in the morning, which only served to freshen up the already beautiful appearauee j of the lawns and course. As the attendance on Saturday proved, it exceeded the corresponding day last year by 2000, and there was another good attendance to-day. Everything promises a highly successful week. The chief item was the Australian Cup, which is fhe longest distance handicap in the Commonwealth. The Bourke Handicap was interesting owing to several Newmarket horses competing. From a good start Lord Fitzroy, Marmont, Lord Ullin's Daughter, Dividend, Rifler, Munderah, and Canteen comprised the first division, with Green Mountain last. Maltie fell at the judge's box. Dividend went to the front at -the bridge, with Fitzroy next, and Canteen running third. Koopan then forged ahead, Lord Ullin'3 Daughter falling back. Tne favourite kept charge past the sheds into the straight, his ■ nearest attendants being Fitzroy, Lamrock, Blinker, Canteen, and Lord Ullin's Daughter. The latter made a very fast run at the distance, but the favourite, under the whip, failed to respond, Lord Ullin's Daughter winning by two lengths. Koopan just beat Marmont for third place. Canteen was sixth. Time, 3min 57Jsec. Mr Francis Foy, the Sydney sportsman, thus won the Newmarket Handicap and Cup, the time being a record for the latter race, beaming Dreamland's record by one second.
