Lord Stanley, Postmaster-general, and the Hon. Ailwyn E. Fellowes, after agreeing to speak on behalf of Mr T. Gibson Bowles, the Conservative freelance, at King's Lynn, withdrew under pressure from their colleagues. Beth regretted their distinct breach of faith.

Viscount Ridley has succeeded Mr C. A;, Pearson (the newspaper proprietor) in tho chairmanship of the Tariff Reform League. Mr Pearson has retired owing to pressure of business, but he lemains vice-president.
