MOON LIGHT

March 6. — One of the most enjoyable socia"'s ever held in the district was tendered to Mrs Hay anrl family on Friday evening last, 3rd inst. This family has been in the district for 27 years, and they during that long period endeared themselvee's to all by their inn.imerable acts of kindness. Though the socia' was socially a .success, a feeling of regret pervaded the atmosphere, this being especial! v felt by the old settlers, whose thoughts, ia view of the severance of the connection of the family with the district, reverted to the late Mr Hay, whose loss made a gap that could never be completely filled, andi whose name is still synonymous in the district with all that is good. It is not necessary to enumerate the good qualities of the different members of -he family, as the '" Hays of Deep Dell Station •will be remembered as long as Moonlight is Moonlight. During the evening Mr Clarke, in a neat and felicitous speech, spoke of the good qualities of the guests of the evening, and asked them to accept as a small token of esteem a silver tea service, suitably inscribed. Mrs Hay (who felt her position very keenly) replied, and thanked the settlers of Moonlight and Nenthom for their beautiful present. Farming.— The weather last week was very cod and foggy, and this impedecli the ripening of the crops. With a little warm weather, harvesting will soon become general. School. — The school is closed at present, owirg to the ill-health of the teacher. General.— The !=ale of the Deep Dell Station, stock, etc., comes off on Thursday, 9th inst. — Reefing is to be given a trial, I believe, on Mount Highlay. Success to the arduous labours of the promoters of the industry.
