March i. — The annual picnic of the Tahora School was held in tlie school grounds on the 22nd ult., and proved a great success. The day was pH tt&t ccuM be desired, and as a

result a great number of people, both old and young, assembled together. Proceedings commenced at half-past 2 o'clock, and were joined in with great spirit. A good selection of toys had been provided, and after they were competed foi in various ways and distributed among the children, games of all kinds ware indulged m Refreshments were partaken of during the afternoon, and the ladies of this district are to be congratulated on the choice assortment of cakes and other eatables which they provided. Mr J. Evvart was present with his bagpix^cs, and the music was indeed a great addition to the day's enjoyment. Darkless had about set in before the pleasure seekers concluded the games, when those who had enjoyed themselves sufficiently left for their homes. All who wished to partake f miller of pleasure adjourned to the schoolroom, where dancing was commenced, and kept up with great spirit till early morning. During the evening short addresses were delivered by Mr Doherty (Lee Stream) and Mr Isbister, both speakers being heartily applauded. Songs were also rendered by Miss Sims and Mr Sullivan, and recitations by Miss Doherty, Miss Harrison, Mr llegitt, and Mr Roach, the last-named also favouring the audience with a sailor's hornpipe. The duties of M.C. wero carried out by Messrs T. Garrett and Sullivan, and everything passed off well. Proceedings wero terminated at half-past 3, and thus ended one more enjoyable picnic of the Tahora School.
