HIDE SALES.

Messrs Dalgety and Co. (Limited) report as follows: — We held our usual sale of hides at our stores, Vogel and Cumberland streets, on Thursday, 29th inst., when we offered -a . fairly "large catalogue, comprised almost entirely of medium and light weights. There was only a- small gathering of buyers present, but, notwithstanding this, bidding was brisk, and the whole catalogue was cleared at prices . on a par with thos« obtained at our last sale. 3 Light hides, were again keenly competed for, '' and, relatively speaking, brought better prices ; than was rceived for medium weights. Mcritzson and Co. report having held their usual fortnightly sale of hicTes at theii stores, Bond and Jetty streets, on Thursday, as follows: — We offered a large catalogue to the average attendance of buyers. Competition was again very keen for all classes, lnediumw eight hides showing a great improvement on prices paid for this class at previous sales, whilst extra heavy and light ox and cow sold at better prices than those paid a fortnight ago. Our catalogue was chiefly made up of hides from country butchers, etc., and many of these, whiah were of medium quality, sold from 5d per ib upwards. We quote : Prime ox, extra stout, old to 6icl ; heavy do, 5Jd to s§d ; medium do, 4|d to Sd ; ught do, 4£d to 4»d ; heavy cows up to 4|d ; medium do. 4Ad ; light do, 4id to 4Jd per lb ; yearlings, Ss ~6d to 6s 6d; calfskins (sound), 2s 6d to 2s Sd ; horse hides, 8s 6d to 10s each. Stronaoh, Morris, and Co. report as follows: We held our fortnightly sale of hides at our stores, Crawford street, on Thursday, 29th> inst., when we offered a catalogue comprising; 229 hides and calfskins. The attendance of buyers was smaller than usual, but -all present were keen to do business, and we had a very satisfactory sale. Included in our offering were several lots of prime stout ox hides, and these sold very well, our top price for them being 6fd, at which figure we 'sold one weighing 761b, which in money value amounted to £1 19s 9d. We also secured 6d for two 71's, s£d for 11 ranging from 661b to 761b, and 51d to s|d for many other lots. In cow hides our top price was 4Jd, which was -paid for 17 ir» all, the weights of which ran from 40ib- to 451b. We can recommend consignments being sent to us at present, as the demand is keen for all classes in good condition. The following are actual prices paid at our sale:— Prime heavy stoutt ox hides, sid to 6|d; good heavy do, 4fd to 5Jd; medium-weight do, 4£d to 4gd; light weight do. 4Jd to 4|d ; prime heavy cow hides, 4Jd to 4|d; medium-Weight do, 4Jd to 4|d; light-weight do. 4-Jd to 4gd; inferior do, 3Jd to 4d per lb : calfskins and light yearlings, 2s to 5s 4d. N Messrs Waters, Ritchie, and Co. report having held their usual fortnightly sale of hides at their stores on Thursday. There was the usual attendance of buyers present, and competition was very keen, with the'result that we cleared our catalogue at very satisfactory prices.
