LONDON, December 28. Mr Austen Chamberlain declines to confirm! or deny the report which the Pali Mali Gazette mentioned under reserve tha^ his next Budget will impose a duty of 3 per cent, on all imported goods except wines, spirits, beer, and tobacco. December 29. The Times, commenting on the Fiscal Blue Book, says that when efforts are made to depreciate and belittle Aus* tralian indications of willingness to grant' preference, it ought to be remembered! that the average Commonwealth duty on British goods is only 6 per cent., com-, paved with 17 per cent, in Canada under] a ureferential tariff.
