Blanc (Victoria) 1, C. Casey (Eltham) 2, G. Goold (Tasmania) 3. Won easily. Time, smin 34 2-ssec. Single-handed Sawing. — Casey (Eltham) 1, i Volzke (Midhirst) 2.. Won easily. Time, lxuin 35 2-ssec. Madden Double-handed Sawing. — Gregory and Bunt 1. Time, 76 3-ssec. Underhand Chopping.— M. "M'Donald 1, W. Beck 2. A close finish. i NEW PLYMOUTH, December 27. j The axemen's carnival at Eltham attracted a ! large attendance- The results of the competitions were : *— New Zealand Axemen's Cup (18in, standing block). — F. D. Johnston, 55sec, 1 ; J. Beardsley, 50sec, 2; R. Bertho, 35sec, 3; Gus Blanc, scratch, 4. Fifty-one competed, and after four heats the final between eight men caused great excitement. The final heat was chopped in 2m in 27sec. Johnston nearly completed his task before Blanc started to hack his log. j Single-handed Sawing ''Championship (2ft blocks).— G. A. Goold (Tasmania) 1, C. F. Volzke (Midhirst) 2, C: W. Casey (Eltham) 3. Won with no trouble in lmin 18 4-ssec. Double-handed Sawing Handicap (2ft blocks), j — White and Saini 1. Ten pairs competed. Goold and Blanc were not placed. ; Backing-up Handicap (2ft blocks). — Volzke Brothers 1, Baird and Mate 2, Casey and Hutton 3. A close finish. Time, lmin 0 4-ssec.
