ADDINGTON STOCK MARKET. CHRISTCHURCH, December 14.
I At Addmgton there_ w-ere fair entries in all J departments, comprising 6625 sheep, 572 ' cattle, and 611 pigs. The attendance was ■ small. f Fat Cattle. — The yarding comprised 221 ' head, and the large supply caused a further drop of £1 a, head in value ; while a large proportion were withdrawn. Steers made from. £7 7s 6d to £10 10s, ozw» pen of bullocks being withdrawn at £12 10s; heifers, £5 15s to £8; and cows, JEo 5s to £7 18s; being at the rate ' of 20s to. 24s per 1001b for medium to prime beef. i Store Cattle. — There was a moderate entiy i and, except for grown stock, the demand was I very dull. Prices were as follow: — Calves, " 20s ; yearlings, 355 ; 15' to 18 months' cattle, 40s to 61s; two-year-old steers, £4 to £4 6s; two-year-old heifers, £3 8s to £3 16s; three- % year-old 'steera, £6 2s to £7 7s; three-year-old heifers, Si 123 to £5 7s; dry o»ws, £2 $n to £5 ss. Daily Cows. — A small yarding, including a few good cows, which sold well. Old and inferior animals were neglected. Good cows realised from £6 to £8; inferior, £2 to £5. ■ Fat Sheep. — There was a fair entry, consisting chiefly of ewes. The sale opened with a quiet tone, and as it went on and butchers' needs became satisfied a very substantial reduction had to be made in the prices of ewca,
wethers suffering to a smaller extent owing to the competition of export buyers. Wethers may be quoted at Is below the previous week's value; while ewes sold with great irregularity, the decline on some pens being no more than Is and on others as much as> 3s or 4s, and the average fall being fully 2s. A few consiignnients of ordinary merinos suffered a similar decline. The range of prices for shorn sheep was : Wethers, 19s 7d to 23s sd ; prime heavy ewes, 20s to 23s 3d; other ewes, 16s to 19s 6d; merino wethers, 12s 7d to 16s 9d; merino ewes, 10s. Fat Lambs. — A fair number were penned, but many were of indifferent quality. Prices were irregular, and on the average from 6d to Is lower than previous rates, only the best pens making last week's values. Good to prime lambs sold at from 17s 6d to 20s, a few extra quality to 21s; secondary, from 13s to 17s. Store Sheep. — There wa3 a small entry, and buyers were few, but previous values were maintained. The principal sales included 250 wethers at 17s 9d. 89 two-tooth wethers at 17s lOd, 64 two and four-tooth wethers at 16s 2d, 8 sound mouth ewes at 17s Bd, and 208 small two-tooth ewes at 15s lid. Pigs. — Another large entry met with moderate competition, and prices all round were easier. BacOners sold at 38s to 525, equal to 4d to 4Jd per 1b ; porkers, 25s to 345, or 4Jd to 4|d per lb ; large stores, 22s to 30s ; small, 12s 6d to 18s; and suckers, 8s to 12s.
