NAVY LEAGUE PRIZES.
The Navy League has presented to the city schools and the. more important of those situated in the suburbs and the country districts a copy of the Navy League map and handbook. In the case 1 of the schools in the city and suburbs, the map 3 sre being formally presented at the vacation ceremonies now taking place, and the following members of the league have been asked to undertake the presentations at the various schools : — Kaikorai, Mr Robert Chisholm; Morning ton, Mr W. A. Moore; High Street, Mr J. H. Hosking;. Normal School, Mr George Fenwick; Arthur Street. Mr J. F. Woodhouse ; George Street, Mr F. O. Bridgeman ; Union Street, Mr J. Sinclair Thomson; Albany Street, Mr P. Pv. Sargood; North-East Valley, Mr Colin Macandrew; Forbury> Mr Thomas Smith; Macandrew Koad, Hon. H. Gourley; Caveraham, Mr T. K. Sidey, M.H.R.; Kaitangata, Mr James Allen. M.H.R. The following are the results of the naval history examination for 1901- in the Ota^o Education Board school, together with the prizes awarded : — I. — Cecil M'Lean Smith, Kaikorsi — Maiian'g "Life of Nelson" and " Dundonakl " ; Allan John Pairmaid, Outran*—^The Navy and the Nation " and " Fights for the Flag " ; Wilfred Graham Pyle, St. Bathans— " The Navy and the Nation" and " Nelson and his Captains"; William Douglas Fitzgerald, Arthur street — Mahaa's. " Life of Nelson " and " Purd^iiaJd,"
ll.— Stanley H. M'Donald, Green Island— " Nelson, and his Captains " and " Our Navy for 1000 Y^ars."
III.— W. IVardrop, Kaikorai — Clark Russell's " Nelson and his Captains " and " Fights for the Fiag." Commended.— MaJcoln- Ernest Buchanan, Kelao — " Deeds that "Won the Empire " and Souther's " Life of Nelson " ; Mary Neilson Hewson, Tahatika — " Deeds that Won the Empire " and Southey's "Life of Nelson"; Harry Edmondston, Hampden — " Deeds that Won" the Empire " and Sooithey's " Life of 'Nelson " ; James M. Abernethy, George street — " Deeds that Won tie Empire " and Southey's " Life of Nelson " ; Annie Malcolm Bruaton. Weston — " Deeds that Won the Empire " and Su-uthey'a " Life of Nelson " ; Augustus Henry Oswin, Kaikorai — " Deeds that Won the Empire " and Southey's " Life of Nelson." * Gifts. — Annie Harrison, Tahora — " Our Navy for 1009 Years " and " Horatio Nelson " (Claark Russell) ; Rosde Garrett, Taliore — '' Nelson and his Captains ' and "Horatio Nelson" (Claxk Russell) ; John Graham, Tahora — " Fights for the Fiag " and " Horatio Nelson " (Clark Russell). The three last-meptio&ed competitors were disqiialified owing to an informality for wheh they were in no way to blame. Their work was so good, however, that the Navy League Committee could not pass it without recognition, and th© above gifts have been sent to them.
