Timaru skin and wool sales (Herald, 15th in/t.) : — Pair catalogues were entered yesterday for the fortnightly skin/and wool sales, and iv some instances good prices were 'realised! '.The following are quotations: — Crossbred skins, 4s 4d, £a 6d, 53. 5s 7d, 6s, 6s Bd, to 7s lid each ; 6J-1 to 6Jd per lb. Half bred skins, from 5s to 6s 3d each; 7d and 7Jd per lb. Merino skins, "5s 9d to 6s each: 7d to 7Jd pier lb. -Pelt 3, 7d to lid. - Wool : Trimmings, 4d, 4Jd, sd, S^d ; dead, 7Jd, 7|d. Fat, 14s 6d, 14s 9d, 16s, 16s 3d, 17a. to 17s 3d. Ashburfcon wool and skin sales : — There was a large entry at the yards of the Ashburton auctioneers last week and buyers were well represented. All classes of ekins sold at slightly increased rates as compared with the last sale, a-nd bidding throiighout was keen. The following are prices : — Wool — Mixed wools, 7|d to 9d per lb; merino, 9d to 9Jd; halfbred fleece wool (in bags), B|d to 9Jd ; merino (in bales), 9|d ; deal wool, 7d to 9d ; crossbred matted wool (in bags), Bid to Sfd; black wool (in bags), 4fd to 5Jd; crossbred fleece wool (in bags), 8d to 9|d ; crossbred (in bales), B|d; ram fleeces, 8d ; bellies, 4Jd to 5f d ; crutchinga, 4£d , locks, 2d to l|d ; pieces (crossbred), 2-} dto s£d per lb; pieces (crossbred, in bales), 3|d to sid ; merino pieces (in bags), 4d to 41d per lb. Skins — Crossbreds, 2s to 8s 6d; butchers' crossbreds, 5s 2d to 7s 6d each; crossbreds, 6|d to 7^d per lb ; halfbreds, 3s 8d to 12s 3d per skin, 6|d to 74d per lb ; hoggets, 4s lOd to 6s per skin, and 7d to 7id per lb ; merinos, 5s 3d to 8s 6d per skin, B|d to 7^cl per lb; pelts, 7d to Is lOd ; black skins, 4s 3d to -4s 9d. A large line of crossbreds, merinos, halfbreds, and pelts, mixed, made 7d per lb. Fat— Rough fat 1.l to l£d per lb; rendered fat, lid per lb. Hides — Cow hides, 3s, 9s, 15s, to 16s ; calf hide, 2s 9d.
Chris tchurch grain and produce report (Lyttelton Times, 17fch inst.) : — Since the last report comparatively little business has passed, and quotations remain unchanged.
Ashbiutcn markets for the week elided Friday last- — "Wheat: There has been a considerably better feeling on the wheat market, more especially for good milling Tnscau. Many millers are of the opinion that the spring-sown v heat will be scarce owing to the heavy rains having flcoclecl some of the heavier ground, and for this leason are lavmg in rather more than hand-to-mouth stocks. Cablegrams from, Lou-»
don are also more reassuring, and have greatly assisted in making sales. A fair quantity lias changed hands during the -week at present quotations, at -which the markei now closes firm. Prices are — Tuscan 3s sd, pearl 3s Ud, Hunters 3s 3Ad to 3s 4d. Oats : There has been a good inqiiiry for all shipping lines, more especially for short feed and Gartons. Danish has sold well at lower rates, but many holders are disinclined t accept the price offering far this description. Duns are scarce ,and sell readily. Quotations- are — Short feed and duns Is 6d to Is 6£d, Danish Is 4* to Is sd. Oatsheaf Chaff : Themarket contnrue? firm, and the supplj is only just able to keep up with the demand. Prices have firmed slightly, and close at 57s Gd to 58s 6d for prime heavy, while £3 has been, given m &ome few cases for extra heavy shipping lines.
