HENARE TOMOAtfA. The late Henare Tomoana, M.L.C., was a chief of the Ngatikahungunu tribe, Hawke's Bay. In 1869 he led a force of his tribesmen in the campaign against the rebel chieftain Te Kooti, and saw some fighting around the shoies of Lake Taupo. Subsequently ho was appointed a member of the Legislative Council, and occupi?d a, seat in that chamber lor many years. His death occurred at the beginning of the present year.
