At the invitation of Mr W. Dawson, the employees of the City Brewery and the members of the Caledonian Bowling Club spent a very pleasant afternoon at Wakari Hall on Satur- ' day. They were convoyed in drags and waggonettes. The journey 'to Wakari was made by way of Maclaggan ( street, along Arthur steert, via Queen's drive, through Littlebourne, thence along Newington road, via the Balmncewan links. The . grounds, considering the backwardness- of the season, presented a gay appearance, and after the good things provided by the host had been done full justice to a stroll about the property was much ap- " predated by the visitors. When tired of sightseeing, open-air games, such as Aunt Sally aad quoits, were freely indulged in. Mr Kirby (vice-president of the Caledonian Bowling Club) v thanked Mr Dawson for the pleasant outing he had provided, and said that one and all had enjoyed a" splendid afternoon. . Mr Dawson, in reply, said he was pleased to hear that one and all had enjoyed themselves. After three hearty cheers had been given for Mr Dawson, jthe party returned home at 5.30, via 1 - Woodhaugh. At a meeting at Tapanui last it was decided to form a bowling club, to be* called the Tapanui -Bowling Club. Another meeling is to be held to constitute the club. ■
. Sub-committees have been appointed and all. arrangements completed for the forthcoming bowling tournament to take place at Gisborne. The grounds are in excellent order.
