BALCLUTHA STOCK SALE.
Messrs Dalgety and Co. (Limited) report having held their fortnightly sale at the Corporation Yards, Balclutha, on Friday, 2nd mst. The entry of sheep, which was smaller than i7?ual, consisted almost entirely of fat\wethers ! and ewes, all of which met with a good demand for local use. The top price (23s 9d) for shorn sheep was obtained by Mr R. Houliston (Kakapuaka) for the pen of two-tooth wethers which carried off the first prize a"t Balclutha show for wethers most suitable for freezing, white Mr S. W. Moffat (Kaihiku) obtained 22s for his first prize pen of two-tooth shorn wethers. Cattle were represented by a mixed entry of fat steers and heifers, forward bullocks, yearlings, and dairy cows. For these ■"there was a fair inquiry, and the most of the entries changed hands at full rates. Shorn wethers brought 20s 6d to 23s 9d ; shorn store, '.wo and four-tooth wethera, 15a 6d; fat ewes, 18s to 21s 3d; fat steers. £6 to £7 15s; fat heifers, £5 to £6 10s; forward tnree-year-old steers. .£7 2a 6d io £8; yearlings .and 18-month old, £2 9s to £3 15s; dairy cows, £5 to £7; pigs — suckers and' slips, 9s -fed' to 16s 6d; • porkers; 25a, to 215s 6d. They *lso offered a, .consignment of 20 draught and horses on .account cf Mr Ernest Stevenson (Palhnerston North). The draughts were all three and four -year, and, although not heavy, were very suitable for ploughing and other farm work. Although the demand was by no means "brisk, nearly, the whole of the consignment changed fcanrts at £35 to £38 for' draughts, and £14 to £22 for- light horses.,
