Bidding at to-day's sale was good, and, 'with the exception of one or two lots, a com- j plete clearance was effected, at prices rather j above last sale's values. Light sorts under 461b are still in great demand, and best lines sell readily at from 4|d "to 4jd. Heavy stout ox are also in request at very satisfactory | rates. Competition was very keen for all under offer. Medium and heavy hides showed an advance of |d to Id on prices paid for that class at our last sale, whilst light ox and cow and extra stout ox sold fully on a par with last sale. Owing to email supplies coming "forward and the Australian markets being much firmer of late there is a good demand for wellconditioned hides at the following quotations : Extra stout ox, s|d to 6Jd ; heavy, 5Jd to sgd ; medium, 4|d to s|d; light, 4£d to 4Jd; cows, i heavy, 4Jd to 4^d ; medium, 4£d to 4£d ; light, r 4Jd to 4|d per lb; yearlings, 5s 6d to 6s 6d ; calfskins, 2s 6d to 3s each. Messrs Stronach, Morris, and Co. report as follows : — We held our fortnightly sale of hides at our stores, Crawford street, «n Thursday, Ist December, when tlwre was a finiallgr at-

ter dance of buyers present than has lateiy been the custom. Competition was not quite so keen as usual, but prices on the whole were satisfactory, although light-weight hides were hardly as high in price. Our catalogue was not a large one, comprising 100 in all, and we had nothing forward of exceptional merit. Our top price for ox was 5Jd, at which figure we sold one line averaging 681b. We also sold several others at s|d, s§d, and s|d. In cows' our top price was 4|d, which price was paid iof severaLylines. Messrs Waters, Ritchie, ancL> Co. report having held their usual fortnightly sale of hides at their stores, Crawford street, on Thursday afternoon, when there was the usual attendance of buyers. Our catalogue was made up principally of country consignments, which were in good order and condition. Competition was particularly keen, and we cleared* our offerings at very satisfactory prices, which in some instances showed an advance on those ruling at the last sales. We had nothing extra prime, but our top price was 52d for ox and 4£d for cow. In light-weights we secured 4gd for a. line of 14 cows, averaging 411b gross. •We quote : Extra stout ox, s£d to 6Jcl ; heavy do, 4f d to sgd ; medium do, 4}. ito 4|d; light do. 4g to 4|d; heavy cows, 4Jd to 4|d; medium do, 4d to 4Jd; light do, 4Jd to yearlings, 3Jd to 4d per lb; calfskins, Is 6d to 3s 6d each.
