I Notes from Cromwell.

The A'pme Consols dredgp is not doing so well this week. :ateadil3^ Tho snow is disappearing gradually, and as" the frost is so sever? a number of the dredges are working to-morrow to prevent the chance of getting frozen up. The New Halfway House dredge is on a nice ■jjatch of wash. There are about 50 yards of ground to work. The Riley's Beach return is for a bioken -week, as the men on the day shift were lipping the buckets. The Hartley and Riley drecige is on exceptionally rich ground, as there was £> wash-up to-day for a 24 hours' run. It is lumoured the return is something very good. The Electric No. 2 dredge will hr.ye a much "better return next week, as she has been iicviblecl wijh a big stone all this week. August 8.
The weather is fine, with heavy frosts at jiitrht. There is a good deal of snow melting during the day, as the sun is now fairly strong. The river is still falling steadily. The Alpine No. 2 dredge is dropping back to-day to work the ground lower down. It is very "deep, but she should be able to bottom it now. The Hartley and Riley dredge washed up again this morning. I believe she is on very lich ground. The hard frosts so far have not caused any breakages or delays.
