The athletic championship and oiher events in connection with the New Zealand Inter-University Carnival were held at Carisbrook on Monday. Unfortunately, the weaweather militated seriously against the attendance, and there was only a fair gathering of spectators. The programme prcvided, however, was most interesring, and some of the events induced keen contents and considerable excitement. The feature of the day was the running of the 380 yds, in which 'Patrick (Oago) distinguished himself by a splendid spurt in the straight, forcing his way up from third to first place. The Relay Race was a most exciting event, and Canterbury made a splendid win. In the Hammer Throwing Anderson, of Canterbury, beat the standard of 90ft by throwing 103 ft 2im, thus winning a gold medal. Foster, of Canterbury, accomplished the Mile Flat Championship in standard time, beating Davies's best previous performance by 1 4-ssac. In the Tug-of-war the Canterbury team pulled off the honours rather easily. As a result of the day's programme the championship points stand as follow: — Canterbury 52, Otago 44, Auckland 19, and Victoria College 5. The races were all started to time, and the management of the proceedings was excellent throughout, the officials all doing their best to make the programme a success.
