MILBURN.

March 26. — The harvest in our district is now over. Crops are gathered, and~the plough is already seen here and there. So far there has not been much threshing, but farmers are lnakin" preparations, and it will not be long before the mills are in full swing. Turnips are looking splendid on the whole; but blight has done a little damage in some of the drier paddocks. Weddimg. — A happy wedding was celebrated at Mr J. RoulsWs on the 23rd. The contracting parties were Miss Janet Eoulston and Mr J. Park. Many friends were present, and quite filled the spacious bam, which was cleared for the occasion. Presents, both useful and ornamental, were very numerous, and showed tho high esteem in which the young couple were held. Rev. Mr Standage, of Milton, performed the ceremony. Holiday,— The public school was granted a half-holiday on Anniversary Day, and many of the parents and children went to Waihola to see the regatta. As the weather was ftna, the outing was much enioyed. The crowd at Waihola seems to have been a record ons. Fire. On the evening of the- 22nd, about 11 o'clock, a fire was discovered m the engine shed at the lime kilns. In a hut, at the end of the shed, three men were camped, and when they w&re attracted by the noise of the fire, it was too late to do anything to prevent the destruction of the whole building. The engine was damaged by the fire, and will need a good deal cif repairs before being rendered fit for use again. The bellows and tools in the blacksmith's shop were also destroyed. It will take some £50 to repair damages, and in the meantime extra expense is involved in carting the coal to the fires. Insurance will probably cover the loss on the building, etc., which is the property of the Lime and Cement Company. The "fire is supposed to have originated through sparks from the blacksmith's forge getting among the "boards of the wall. Accident. — Mr Hemy MacNeill, of Circle Hull, w.is thrown from a load of straw on the 21&+, and sustained a slight fracture of the right shoulder. It will be about a fortnight before he id about again.
