OTAGO LAND BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Otago Land Board, held on Wednesday, was attended by Messrs H. Barron (Commissiomei of Crown Lands), H. Clark, J. Duncan, and W. Dallas. The Under-secretary for Lands wrote intimating that Mr Henry Clark ha-dl been reappointed a member of the Land Boaid. — Rsce'ved. An application by D. G. Gunn for an occupation lease under the Mining District Land Occupation Act over 30 acres in Block VIII, Leaning Rock district, Run 221, was considered. The application was granted subject to survey ; together with a report from Ranger O'Neill ; lent Gd per acre. Edward Morgan applied for a lease in perpetuity over section 90, block I, St Bathans district. — Consideration held over. Frank Deem applied for a license over part section 51, block IV, Waihemo district, and also over the unsold sections in the Town of Waihemo, at present held imder license m the name of his late father, John Deem. — Referred to the ranger fox report.

Elizabeth Pickup applied for exemption from residence on sections 61 and 64, block X, Leaning Rock district, E-arnscleugh, for a few weeks.— Granted. M. E. Harris wrote in reply to the board's notice requiring her to show cause why her L.I.P. over section 7, block IX, Rankleburn district, should not be declared forfeitecS for her non-compliance with the residence condition. — Exemption granted during pleasure of the board. Mr M'Lean reported on the following sections in the Town of Havelock: — Block XXXII, sections 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, IS, and 19; block XXXIII, sections 17, }8, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26.— T0 be offered as township iandte at an upset price of £5 per quarter acre, and burdened with the following valuations.—Block XXXII : section 10, £20 ; section 12, £60; sections 13 and 14, £150; sections 15 and IG, £170; sections 17, 18, and) 19, £100. Block XXXIII: sections 17 and 18, £15; sections 19, 20, 21, 22, and 23, nil; and sections 24, 25, and 26, £120. A letter was received from David Dackors in reply to the boardV notice requiring him to show cause why his L I. P. over section 12, block JX, Rankleburn district, should not be declared forfeited for his non-compliance with the residence condition. — Exemption granted during pleasure of the board. Ranger Atkinson reported! that John Smith, who was required to effect residence on section 24, block Till, Tokarahi Estate, was now erecting a house on the section — Received. James Brown's application for exemption from residence on section 6a, block IV, Puk?tapu Estate, was held over. George Collis wrote, on behalf of his sister Annie Collis, who had been called upon to show cause why her lease in perpetuity over section 18a, block VII, Windsor Park Settlement, should not be declared forfeited for her non-residence on the section.- — It was resolved to take no action for six months. Consideration of Mr M. M'Lean's reports on the following sections, Bluespur: — Section 78, v block XVIII, Tuapeka E. district; section 80, block XVIII, Tuapeka East district ; section 85, block XVIII, Tuapeka East district; section 94, block XVIII, Tuapeka East ft strict; section 95, block XVIII, Tuapeka East district; section 96, block XVIII, Tuapeka East district. — It was resolved that the sections be offered for sale by auction at the following prices and burdened with valuation for improvements as follows: —Section 78, upset price £1 10s, improvements £30; section 80, upset price £2, improvements £45; section 85, upset price £2, improvements £50; section 94, upset price £1 10s, improvements £3; section S5, upset price £3, lmpioveinents £40; section 96, up9et price £1 103, improvements £2. Ranger Atkinson reported on the application by R. Sornerville for a license to occupy section 29, Tokarahi Estate, Stock Reserve. — Yearly license granted; rent 10s. A letter from Miss F. Kirk in regard to her application for sections 2, 3, and 4, block 11, Town of Kelso, was received. J. S. Y. Morrison applied for a license over Coal Reserve, block 111, Highlay district; area 5 acres 9 poles. — Held over for report. Ranger Atkinson reported on the application by William Stevenson for a license over section 16, block IV, Makareao Estate. — Referred to the Stock Department. A letter from. Ellen Byrnes, in reply to the board's notice requiring her to show cause why her L.I.P. over section 44a, block VIII. Windsor Park Estate, should not be declaied forfeited for her non-compliance with the residence condition, was held over for one month. A letter was read from A. M. Dackers, in reply to the board's notice requiring him to show cause why his L.I.P. over section 13, block IX, Rankleburn distriot, should not be declared forfeited for his non-compliance with the residence.— Explanation satisfactory. Ranger O'Neil reported on the application by Joseph Meek for a license over sections 8 and 9, block XI, Woodland district. — Licensegranted under section 116 of the act; rent 7s 6d per annum. The board was. requested to authoiiso the Receiver of Land Revenue to deal with the sum of £11 19s, paid as valuation for the improvements on sections 61 and 64, block X, Leaning Rock district, Eamscleugh* Settlement. — To bs paid to revenue 30s, and £10 9s to Arthur Hissock. Thomas Edgar applied for a license to occtipy section 28, blook VIII, Glenkenich district, Gravel Reseive. — License granted under section 116 of the act; rent 2s 6dl per annum. A letter from G. E. C. Roberts, lessee of small grazing Run 225GG, Highfield, in regard to losses sustained by him during the snow storm last winter, was received, as was also 1 one of a similar nature from R. Johnstone, lessee of small grazing Run 224r, Blackstone. i The Undcr-SECretary for Lands wiote stating that F. H. Perry desired to acquire a lease over section 85, block I, Blackstono district, without competition, and asked the board to take his case into consideration. — Held over until the block is being dealt with. The application of John S. Adorns for an occupation lease under the M.D.L.O. Act over parts of sections 2, 3, 21, 23, 24, anal 25, block VII, Maruwsnua district, and of Mary A. Adams for an occupation lease under the M.D.L.O. Act over parts of sections 2, 9, 10, and 20, block VII, Maruweuua district, were granted; lent to be fixed after receipt of a leport from the ranger. Ranger O'Neill reported en the complaints made by J. O'Connor ana James M'Hardy in regard to the leasing of the Adam's Flat Minj ing Reserve, Tokomairiro district. — Received. James O'Connell, secretary Mining Reserve Committee, applied for a license over the reserve and u.isurveyed! part of Macraes Town 111 the names of Ihom.ts Stanley, James O'Connell, George Cockerell jun., J. While, W E. Griffin, J. W. Bell, and Peter Gifford.— Granted. Ranger Atkinson reported on the damage done to the crops on section 15, Eldersha Estate, by hailstorm in December last, E. S. Smith lessee. — The Government to be lecoinmended to grant the relief asked for, and, under the extraordinaiy circumstances referred to, remit a year's rent. Ranger O'Neill reported on the following applications for occupation leases under the M.D.L.O. Act — Edgar Sainsbury, 15 acres in block IX, Leaning Rock district, David B. Cameron, 7 acres in block VI, Tiger Hill district; T. Duggan, 100 acrps in block VII, Lauder district; Samuel Berry, 100 acres in block VII, Latuler district; Edmond Wallington, 100 acres in block VII, Lauder district ; James Percy, 100 scies in block VII, Lauder district. — The ax^plications of E Sainsbury and D. B. Cameron were referred to the warden for report, and those of T. Duggan, S. Bercy, E. Wellington, and J. Percy were declined, the boardl being of opinion that the granting of the applications would prejudicially affect the working of the run. James L. Mathewson applied for exemption from residence on section 10, block XII. Msniototo distnct, in order that he might reside on section 16, block VII. Swinburn district, held by his wife. — Granted. Mark Morton, lessee of section 2, block VII, Catlms- district, wrote asking for a little longer time within which to comply with tha residence condition. — A further term of tluree months was granted within which to comply with the residence conditions. Applications to transfer were approved as follows: — 195 V.H., A. M. Dockers to James Isteed, section 13, block IX, Rankleburn district; 119 V.S.S., W. J. Thompson to Victor Clifford Thompson, sections 1 to 16 and 18 to 20, block XXXIV, Town of Molyneux; O.L 147, John Pringle to Francis Prmgle, sections 81 and 83, block 11, Benger district; Mis. Lie. 878, C. Stcffensen to Michael Joyce, part of tlock VIII, Town of Moeraki. Consideration of a letter fioni James Delaney, in reply to the board's notice requiring him to show cause why his L.I.P. over section 37, block VII, Woodland district, should not be declared forfeited for his non-compliance with the improvement conditions was held over. The Rcc&iver of Land Revenue reported that E. J. Fraser, whose O.R.P. license 251 was declared forfeited, hs-d now paid all arrears. — Forfeiture rescinded. The following application to transfer was granted. — O.L. 85, James Millan to Rebecca Webb, section 10, block I, Silverpeak district, and 58, block 11, Duneciin and East Taieri district. A letter was received from Miss M. A. Macnamara with regard to the forfeituie of her lease in perpetuity over section 3, ulock VIII, Swinburn district. — It was decided to hold over declaring the forfeiture absolute for a period of three months.
