DUNEDIN PIPE BAND.
The Dunedin Pipe Band held the first of a Wries of bagpipe competitions in the band room on Tuesday night, when about a dozen members competed. The band are indebted to ifessrs Roderick Mackenzie and Dr Gordon .Macdonald for their generous donation of gold medals as prizes. The following gentlemen •were present • — Dr Gordon Macdonald (who acted 83 judge), Messrs It. Mackenzie and W. Sf'Leod (Gaelic Society), Messrs James Brown and D. M. Fea (Caledonian Society), ajid also several honorary members of the band. The i-esults of the competition are as follow.— Piper R. Clark (Roderick Mackenzie's gold medal) 1, Sergeant J. E. Fairbairn (Dr Gordon 'Macdonald's gold medal) 2. After the resxdt of the competition had been announced refreshments were handed Tound, and a, Scotch reel was danced by members of the band, and greatly appreciated. At the conclusion, Pipe-major Hume proposed the toa3l of " The Dunedin Pipe Band Committee," coupled with the names of Messrs Dr Gordon Macdonald and K. Mackenzie, and thanked them for the interest Ihey had always taken in the welfare of the Jand. Both gentlemen aunroDrintcly responded.
Another competition, is announced in a month several gentlemen having announced their intention of giving medals.
