ODE ON SHOWING A DOG.
I showed a dog at Flukston Show To make its first debut; The judge pronounced it long «nd low, It's head bnth strong ajvl true; And looking well aTound, he said, "First prize I give to you." The second show I took him to, Another judge presided, And looking hard at mine, he said, "I still am undecided; Your dog is short, t>, bit too high, Its head is weak, not strong; And if I am mistaken not, The hair ia not too long; Still, as he does a pl-aoe deserve, I'll hamd the card just marked 'reserve.' " The third show came — I hardly knew The points of my own dog; As upside down they all seemed turned, My mind was in a fog. This time the judge pronounced him fit— "Tho dog's in perfect coat. In every point he's sound and true; Special aod first I'll give to you." Now, once again I thought I'd try ; This timo his toil )s much too high; And yet again another show, At which his tail is now too low. So what he is as to St. Judge I cannot tell at all ; I only know I contradict The opinions of them all. — Nonplussed
