A discussion took plaoa at the Farmers' Union meeting on Saturday with reference to Oamaru Harbour, and a series of motion 3 was submitted by the chairman (Mr Wylie). These were affirmed as follows: — "That in the interests of tTie producprj of the district the port should be adapted to 6Uch vessels as the approaches to the port are capable of accommodating : that the swinging basin should be increased in area and depth, the funds to be rai=ed im the same way as for dredging — that is. by caving them off the revenuo; and that the ratepayers of the harbour district should have direct representation on the board by election, instead of by the representation of 'fch<v County Council." A committee was set up to confer as to the finances, and concert some means of overcoming the difficulty re interest on the 1879 bonds, which is not bofng paid. At the same meeting an opinion was strongly expressed with reference to Mr Giliuth'e offers of lectures on veterinary surgery that, providing 15 members pay their half guinea, the reet of the members should have the option of attending Jie lectures free, arid notice of motion was lodged to this effect.
