THE DREYFUS CASE HEATED SCENES IN THE CHAMBER.

PARIS, April 7. Sensational scenes and recriminations, mingeld with \invective, were enacted in the Chamber of Deputies when M. Jaures (the Socialist) made his promised revelation in the Dreyfus case. -M. Jaures produced a letter dated Augjust 31,-> 1897,- in wjricb General Perrieux wrote to M. Cavignac, the Minister, of War, as follows : — " I am the dupe ; of people without honour. lam unable to rely with confidence on my subordmateSi ■ without whom command' is impossible. I am no longer, able to trust those of ' my chiefs who are making me act on forgeries, and I therefore ask to be placed on the retired list." . M. Brisson, who was Premier in 1898, interrupted the * speaker, and said : "The letter was never communicated td me." M. Cavignac replied : "It did not behave me "to notice the letter, which I believe the writer regretted as soon as it was written." M. JJrisson: "You withheld it from your Government. Be thankful that there is now an amnesty. You deserve to be impeached.'' M. Jaures urged that the letter implied the moral complicity of the chiefs of the army with Major Henry in the forgeries, and tnat the concealment of the letter, aggravated the, significance of the forgeries and permitted the forger's clique to connect (?) themselves and renew the campaign on the basis of another forgery. The letter in which the words "cette canaille" occurred was attributed by- M. Jaures to the German Emperor. . . . . . . . ! ' M. Jaures. resumes his speech to-day, - ; April 8., "M. Jaures urged for an inquiry into General Pemeiix's letter. M. Andre, Minister of War, stated that the Go-

vernment intends-+o~facilitate the search" for -truth. Investigations made by the Minister of War have brought to light General Perrieux's letter, ihe text of which is identical with M. Jaures's statement. Magistrates would assist at the inquiry. — (Cheers). The Chamber, by 250 votes to 75, carried a vote of confidence in' the Government, together with a resolution to keep the Dreyfus affair within the judicial domain.
