CYCLING IN SYDNEY.

SYDNEY, March 17. At the cycling carnival the Sussex Plate, five miles, a scratch event, resulted thus: — Morgan (Victoria) 1, Sutherland (New Zealand) 2. Beauchamp (Tasmania) 3. Won by half a length. Time, 11mm 24 4-ssec. March 18. The Sydney £1000 Bicycle Handicap resulted as follows : — JBopper 1, Walker 2, Thome 3. Twenty-five thousand witnessed the final heat. Shortly after the start the eleven competitors separated into two bunches. The limit men, pacing iv turns, made the pace a cracker. Opposite the members' stand Hopper, leaving the front bunch, shot ahead. Walker went in pursuit, and made a great effort to overtake him, but the rapid American passed the post 15 yards ahead of Walker, with Thorne a couple of yards third. Forbes was fourth. Time, lmin 53 2-ssec. The I^'ive-mile Scratch Race resulted : Chalmers (New Zealand) 1, Megson (New South Wales) 2, Forbes (New Zealand) 3. A gooa finish. Won by half a length. Time, llmin 11 2-ssec. Major Taylor fell iv the Half-mile Race, and was slightly damaged. Cameron (a Victorian) won. Randrup (New Zealand) won the Fivemile Scratch Race at the St. Patrick's sports, with Sutherland (New Zealand) second. Time, 12min 9 2-ssec. March 19. The Sydney £1000 Handicap was the fastest competition mile record of the world. Sutherland (New Zealand) ran third in the Cumberland Handicap, a half-mile sprint, which Farley, the Victorian, won in 57sec, "Walker being second. Farley also won the Clarence Handicap, two miles, beating Randrup (New Zealand) by a wheel. Tune, 4min 25sec.
