OUR ILLUSTRATIONS.
1. " Marsh Land." — A fine presentation of clear sky and still water; in the middle distance a cottage backed by a clump of bluegums. A few cattle slowly wending their way ' homewards add to the effect of absolute rest and peace, the calm of the sunset hour, which is the keynote of this picture, but to which our illustration does no sort- of justice. I 2. " By Road and River 7 ." — Most people will readily recognise this characteristic view of the Lower Avon — the willows darkly reflected in the clear stream, the bridge and distant trees, the glimpse of road on the left, and the tangled grass of the foreground. It is the kind of spot that people pass a thousand times without finding in it one element of the picturesque, and then an artist comes along and shows them what he sees, and they open their eyes in amazement, and say : " Who would have thought it? " 3. " Low Land."— A stretch of the New Brighton beach with a lagoon in the fore^ ground, sandhills and scrub in the middle distance, a beach road and an old fence on the left, and the touch of human interest afforded by the laden cart just turning the corner. In this picture the clear water of the lagoon and the characteristic growth of the wind-swept herbage are especially worthy of admiration.
