TATTERSALL'S SWEEPS.
HOBART, November 21. The new Stamp Act provides for a ta* of a penny on each 5s ticket in Tattersail's sweeps. It is expected to product a revenue of £4500. WELLINGTON, November 21. In the Magistrate's Court this morning the stipendiary magistrate gaw his decision iv the cases against Harrison and Packman, charged respectively with conducting and with assisting in the conduct and management of a lottery. Both defendants were convicted. The magistrate said it had been a carefully-considered scheme in connection with TattersaH'6 in order to circumvent the Commonwealth postal restrictions and to evade the Gaming and Lotteries Act in this colony. Harrison was fined £50 on each of the two informations, and Packman £25 on' each. Notice of appeal was given.
