LONDON, November 24. The Times' New York correspondent states that the coal mine operatives hay* agreed to attempt to settle their differences independently of President Roosevelt's commission. PARIS, November 17. The strike of the French miners has resulted in the loss of 30 million francs. NEW YORK, November 17. The Pennsylvania Railway Company have advanced the wages of all their employees 10 per cent., and the New York Central and the Philadelphia, Reading and Erie Companies have followed their example. The entire advance means an addition, to the wages fund to 10 millions sterling per annum. November 18. The Lake Shore Railroad Company have increased wages 10 per cent. November 23. The Federation of Labour Conference at New Orleans, by 4897 votes to 4171, rejected the miners' delegates resolutions, which were of a Socialistic tendency. BTJENOS AYRES, November 24. A general strike has paralysed trade. CAPETOWN, November 21. The artisans on the Rand demand a nine instead of a 10-hour day. SYDNEY, November 24. The Commonwealth Trades Union Con« gress has been opened. After the reception of delegates at the Town Hall, the chairman stated that the congress represented 149,000 unionists^ If the nonaffiliated bodies were included it was reasonable to estimate that the unionists in the Commonwealth would be a quarter of a million. GREY WHARF LABOURERS' UNION* GRETMOUTH, November 18. At a sitting of the Conciliation Board to* day in the matter of the dispute between the Wharf Labourers' Union and all shipping companies trading regularly to Grey* mouth, an industrial agreement to be in force for one year was agreed to by all parties represented. The principal clauses are : Merchandise and general cargo, loading or unloading, to b"b paid for at Is 6d pet hour per day and 2s an hour for night work;| live stock aud coal, 2a per hour fox Hay or night; slings not to exoeed 12cwfc; crib time allowed, but not paid for; preference of work given to unionists, and no preference given one member over another, other things being equal. Contract work to be at the came rate of pay and conditions ac if casual labour were employed. Men called for night work and not required to be paid one hou* and full pay for further time kept waiting 1 .
