DUNEDIN CYCLING CLUB.
The ■ annual meeting of the Dunedin Cycling Club was held in the club's rooms, Colonial Bank Buildings, on Thursday. The meeting had been adjourned from Monday evening becau-o a sufficient number of members to form a quorum had not turned up. The number re quired (20), however, attended last evening. Mr P. Y. Wales, president of tho club, occupied the chair.
The Chairman, in moving the adoption of
the report (already published), aai'l very little comment on it was «eco->-»ary. Ho would like, however, to suggest to whoever \\aa elected captain that an effort be made to continue the club runs. In regard to the road races, he noticed tha». the outgoing committee had reeemmended the ingoing committee to hold a series of these during the ensuing season. The balanoe sheet showed the club to be in a very pood position. Several items on the- expendi- . ture side, such as rent, expenses of moving, etc., would not recur next year This would make a difference of about £30 or £40. At the end of next year, if the club held together and every member brought 111 one other, they should be in a very good positicn
Mr A. A. Finch seconded the motion, which was carried.
Th« election of officers resulted as follows: — President, Mr A. A. Finch; vicepresidents — Dra Fulton, Stanley Batehelor, and J. Sale, and Messrs P. Y. Wales, A. J Barth, and R. Crow ; captain, Mr J. Fred ric; deputy-captain, Mr S. Minn; committee—Messrs W. Bell, V. Boot, A. Dey, W. Munro, J. M'Millan, T. Risk, C. Seelye, R. Sise, and D. Wall ; secretary and treasurer, Mr F. T. Anderson; auditors — Messrs E. C Leary and A. J. Sullivan.
Mr A. W. Moodie moved that rule 16 be amended so that the number of members necessary to form a quorum at an annual ireeting be reduced from 20 to 10. After discussion, it was -decided to reduce the number to 15.
Eight new members were ejected
Mr Crow raised the -question of whether the club should continue to hold its sports m°etings und-et *he auspices of the League of New Zealand' Wheelmen. He said there was a feeling ar. Ong some of the members that it wae amateivism in the cloak of professionalism ; or, rather, that they were fi.eltering professionalism under the cloak of amateurism.
The Chairman said lie did not think there was much chance ot thoir holding a sports meeting this year. Mt Wa!es thought the matter might be left with the committee to inquire into.
Several other members spoke briefly on thf question, expressing the opinion that the amateurism of the- club was not affected, and that- they did not think it possible to hold a decent meeting without professional riders.
The Chairman then- expressed hip pleasure at seeing Captain M'Millan present, and extended to him a hearty welcome back to the club.
Captain M'Millan acknowledged the kind remarks of the chairman ; and vot«3 of thanks having been p-assed to the retiring office-bearers the meeting concluded.
