THE CAPE PARLIAMENT. CAPETOWN, August 24:
The Parliamentary and Financial Indemnity BilMias been read a second time by the Cape Assembly. The debate re- ■ vealed the existence of sympathy between Sir G. Sprigg (the Premier) and the Afrikander Bond, Mr Merriman, tlieleader of the Bond, indicating that lie was anxious to work with the Premier. " A'^gust 25. Mr Juta, a Progressive member of the Cape Assembly, moved that the nine vacant seats ougnt to be filled up. The whole of the Progressives outside the Cabinet except one member supported » the motion. The Ministry crossed the floor, and assisted the Bond in defeating the morion by 41 to 23. This action has caused a sensation.
The Progressives intend to introduce a bill framed on the lines of the laws operating in the Orange River and Transvaal Colonies for the suppression of sedition and seditious utterances.
