MACRAES.
August 22. — A very successful social was held hi Macraes Schoolroom on Friday, 15th, to welcome back Trooper W. Hay, of the Seventh Ctrtingent. • Tho school was beautifully decorated .with flags, evergreens, and appropriate Xhottos, the etage being set out as a drawing room. Mr J. White, jun., occupied the chair, and 'in a stirring and /patriotic speech welcomed Trooper. Hay, ana~ on behalf of the residents presented 'him with a gold-mounted, guard, to which was attached a beautiful gold medal suitably inscribed. Trooper Hay (who lias quite recovered ■from his severe wound and Icoks well) replied in a short speech, thanking the people for their welcome. A concert programme was then successful!." '.a-ried oi\t, the performers being Mrs Phelan, Misses Callery (2), Chaimers, and Aldnd^e, Messrs Kmvig, J. Phelan, A. Phelan, Gnfnn, MGill, and M' T/>»--"T />»--" -vrd the Macraes Glee Party (Mesduvoa Eggers and Phelan, Messrs Elsom, Kmvig, J. Griffin, and J. Phelan). An enjoyable dance was kept up till the small hours.
