Farmers' Union.— The 'Koi branch of th< union met on Wednesday, 20th inst, Mr Geo, Milnes in the chair. A memo, from Mr J, J. Ramsay, secretary of the Otago branch, r« accident insurance, was read, in which a. desire was expressed to make payment of insurance for accident date from day of accident* instead of after a lapse of 14 days, as at present. The meeting seemed to be of opinion that payment of insurance should not data from day of accident, for often a trivial accident might incapacitate a man from work for eight or ten days, and by that time he might be all right again. Members thought that, as the act now stands, the risk is more equally divided, and has a tendency to make men more careful. The following motion was passed— "That this meeting do not think it advisable to alter the present act until such time as we have more light upon the subject." Correspondence was received from the Gor* branch requestors our branch to express au opinion on the desirability of asking the Gor« auctioneers to reduce their commission on silt of horses to 2J per cent. After some discussion it was moved by Mr F. Ferguson, and seconded by Mr R. Simmers— "That a reduction to 3J Der cent, be asked for." An amendment moved by Mr John Mackay and" seconded b? Mr A ; Cross— "That the Teduct-on be to 2* pet cent."— was carried, there bainsr 13 for" the amendment and 5 against it. Mr R. Simmer* was appointed delegate to accompany the Gor* deputation that waits upon the auctioneers. . Pomahaka- Siding.— After a good deal of discussion, in which all present expresses a desire to have the name "'Pomahaka 1 ' altered to> one more suitable, several- names were submitted to the meeting- for approval. A ballot was taken, and th« votintr waa found tobe in favour of the name "Netherby." Oh the motion of Mr J. Stark, sreonded by Mr A. Cross, the secretary was instructed to writs to the Mini-sW of Railway? and" the Poat-master-Gei-pra' „,,.•-. <,,ii v requesting that, owing to tke inc«n»enience caused * and lertprs n<e^d'< 7 '-• often beinc ap-ni to ■Pomahnk.i "Downs, and even to Romahapa, the name Pornahaka. be changed, and suggesting the name NetheTby as being a suitahle one. Proooed NW County. — On the motion oi M'- J Stark, it was resolved iha* a. eenaral meeting of th» ratepayers be called for Friday, 29th inst.. at 7.30 p.m., to discuss whether it is deiirab'e or not +0 form a new county, to take in Mataura, Hokonui, Glenkenich, and to follow the Waipahi River.
