EXIT CYCLE BOARDS BILL.

In spite of the effort* of Mr Georga Fojrlds and a few more - members who cordially supported him, th© Cycle Boards Bill received its quietus to-day. It came on very unexpectedly at about 4 o'clock (tho Government having given way in favour of privaite bilU this afternoon), but evrm if more preparation had been made for the bill it J£ doubtful whether it would have gofc through its second reading, as members are not' in. the mood" to give much attention to any legislation that is not absolutely necessary. The fear oi nearly all those who . opposed th© bill was that cyclists in the country districts would be butchered to , make the townsfolk's holiday, or, in others v ords, that -they" would have to pay taxes for an indefinite time without seeing any result. After a discussion lasting an hour and a quarter tho bill was thrown out by 20 votes to 23. Those who \oied for the bill were- : — Me=.-r3 Arnold, Barclny, Bollard, Collins, Duncan, Ell, Fowlcls, Gilfedder, Hanan, Hogg, Houston, Lamenson', Massoy, M'Gowan, Mills, Pirani, Stevens, Steward, Ward, Wilford, and Witherord. Against the bill:— Messrs E. G. AUetn, Bennet, -Buddo, Carncrose, Field, Flatman', Gidham, Hall. Hardy, Heke, Herries, Hornsby, Lethbndge, M'Lacldan, Meredith, O'Mcara, Paratu, G. W. Russell, Sidcy, Symes, Tanner, R. Thompson, and J. >v. Thomson.
