DUNEDIN CYCLING CLUB'S ANNUAL REPORT.
The. following report will be submitted at the annual meeting of (he D.C.C., to be held in the club room, Colonial Bank Buildings, on Monday e\ emng, 25th imt. . — Your, committee have pleasure in laying before you their annual leport and balance sheet tor the year ended 31st July, 1002. Finances.— Hie balance sheet shows a credit balance of £21 9s Id, whJe the assets of the club, after allowing for the usual depreciation, now stand in excess of the liabilities at i'l62 0s Id.
Club Huns.— Owing to the very little interest manifested by members in 'tins department it was decided to abandon any fixed club runs, but a good deal of touring has been done by iome of our older membeis, notably Messrs Bell and Hovlett, who made a trip to the West Coast Sounds and Sutherland r alls.
ltopd Racing —During the year the club hela a series of road race 3, two bein« to Honley a<icl cie to Waihola. 'Ihese races were the means of creating a great dral of interest, and the success attain' d by them should stimulate the club to hold further laces this year. Ihe first was won by W. incoming committee to hold a. series of ti&ese ■•vents during the ensuing season. Novice Race. — A Novice Race was held on ge Caledonian ground, for prizes of £2 »nd , presented by the club. Fouiteen competitors faced the starter. It -was a very good Xtce, and resulted in a win for J. Craig, with J. R. Roxburgh second. The number of starters in this event proves that there is a Ateen interest taken in races provided for Jfcovices. Social. — T^e social department of the club has been well looked a-fter during the year. A ping-pong tournament with the Otago Cycling Club and a, euchre tournament for club members proved very successful. An(rther pleasing function held in the olub was itn enthusiastic social tendered to Captain 4£'Millwi on the occasion of his departure to South Africa with the Ninth Contingent, a.t jwhich he was the recipient of a very handsome solid silver cigax case. Your club have reason, to feel proud of the number of its knembers who hay« gone from its ranks to fcctive service in South Africa. ' Donations and Thanks.— The committee desire to thank the following donors to the club's funds — Dr Fulton. Messrs P. Y. Wales, h. Wall, R. Crow, V. Boot, and the Canada Cycle and Motor Company, Limited. Thanks are also due to tho president of the club (Mr P V Wales), the delegate to the League of New Zealand Wheelmen (Mr F. M'Kechme), »nd the delegates to the Otago centre. Special ' thanka to the press for the prominence given to cycling matters throughout tie colony are ilso due and here recorded.
